I talk about books as well as host author interviews, guest posts and reviews. While my time is very limited running a business, I have little time to review so most of my reviews are from books I request although that might change. I am open to guest posts as long as the post pertains to anything literary - whether it be the publishing or the promoting process. WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | GOODREADS

Tickling Daphne HQ: Thank you so much for this interview, Veronica!  Can you tell us where you are from?

I am from New York City.

Q: How did you come up with your title?

I have always loved the name Daphne. I originally was going to title my book Tickling Daphne, but I felt that adding the H made it more intriguing and in addition, no other letter in the alphabet seemed to work well in the title. My character’s full name is Daphne Hamilton, so putting the H at the end made sense. There is also a cartoon character from Scooby Doo named Daphne and she gets tickled a lot and seems to be a big interest for the tickling community, so I wanted it to be clear that The Daphne in my book has no relation to the Scooby Doo character. So, the title became Tickling Daphne H.

Q: They say you can judge a book by its cover.  Can you tell us a little about your cover and who designed it?

My publisher designed the cover. I didn’t want to have it look the same as all other erotica books out there, so we came up with something new and refreshing, with just a small hint of humor.

Q: Can you tell us something about your book that would make me run out and buy it?

Well, for starters, several readers have commented that it is a very stimulating read. It is sexually vibrant and is unusual as well. The characters are a bit troubled, yet enlightened as they come face to face with their fetishes. There is loads of tickling, voyeurism, romance and things that push the characters to the edge of their very own desires and tickle addictions.

Q: Are there any messages in this book that you want the reader to know about?

That tickling can bring on so many emotions and feelings. There are many sides to tickling and it doesn’t have to just be romantic or torturous. It can be silly, fun, and just plain exhilarating. It’s also a wonderful tool to improve things in the bedroom and such a fun way to bond. Tickling is quite often the gateway to sex.

Q: What was your most favorite chapter to write and why?

I really enjoyed writing Daphne visits Tickle Wonderland. I loved writing a dream sequence. Daphne had passed out from exhaustion and pure bliss, after being tickled for hours by her fiancé. She finds herself in an almost psychedelic dream state, where all the rules have changed, and she must adapt to the customs of Tickle Wonderland. It was so much fun because I could veer away from reality much more than I could in the other chapters. Writing that chapter made me laugh and smile, and I could really let my wild imagination run free.

Q: Why did you feel you had to write this book?

One of my main motivations behind writing Tickling Daphne H. was to inspire and encourage people not to be ashamed of their fetishes. I think people should stop hiding who they are and just enjoy the things that excite them and make them feel more alive. People are so busy hiding their deepest desires, and it is causing so many unhappy and unfulfilling relationships.

I also felt that there has been an extreme lack of tickling in the media. There should be a lot more tickling in everyday TV, movies, songs and books. I wanted to bring a real juicy tickling story to tickle fetishists and other erotica lovers. I wanted to entice readers who are curious to read about such a delightfully unusual and unique bunch of tickle fetishists, who sometimes do not live by every day standards.

Last, but certainly not least, I wrote it for me. I have always wanted to write a large erotic novel and the fact that it turned out to be about my favorite fetish makes me feel all the more overjoyed and accomplished.

Q:  Now, some fun questions – What deep dark secret would you like to share with us?

You’ll have to tickle it out of me. J

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I would like to go to the world’s first tickling spa in Spain.

Q: Are you a morning person or a night person?

Morning? What’s that?

Q: Are there any members in your family who also like to write?

My father used to write quite a bit. My sister writes sometimes, but not professionally.

Q: As a child, were you a dreamer?

Yes, very much so.

Q: Last but not least, the magic genie has granted you one wish.  What would that be?

To be a best-selling author and have my novels turned into films.

Q: Thank you so much for this interview! Do you have any final words?

I enjoyed this interview. Thank you so much.

postheadericon Character Dear Reader Letter: Rover from Morrie Richfield’s inspirational fantasy ‘Mr. Breeze’

lettersJanuary doesn’t have to be all about freezing temperatures and nothing to do! Literarily Speaking will be hosting authors from January 2 – 25 with a fun way to get through the winter doldrums. We are asking authors to have their characters write letters to their readers. If your character had a voice (and of course they do!), what would they like to say to their readers? Now they finally have a say! Put on a hot toddy, light the fire and read these way cool letters to YOU, our dear readers!

Today’s guest is Rover from Morrie Richfield’s Mr. Breeze!

Rover is a German Sheppard Dog that Michael Ryan and Mr. Breeze encounter during their time together. Rover is not a normal dog he has been endowed with remarkable capabilities.

Dear Readers:

Mr. Breeze 3First of all I hope all of you humans had a wonderful Holiday season and that you all got the presents you were hoping for. I also hope you were not only kind to your fellow man (something some of you seem to be not very good at) but to your pets as well. Give your dogs a bone every now and then and if you happen to be a cat person (never could get what you humans find appealing about those purring things) give them something special as well.

You might even consider the animals that are not so lucky to have thoughtful and decent owners like the ones in shelters or the ones hiding in your yards. When it gets cold and the snow falls food can be hard to find so step up and help when you can. They could certainly use all the help they can get.

Now about this book Mr. Breeze. I have read all the reviews and how this writer is so great and no one has ever read anything like it before and how it changed people’s lives and I’m getting a little tired of not hearing about what a great character I am!

After all I am important to the story and I want some recognition. I deserve it and until I get some I am going to start pissing on anything I can find.  So unless you want your clothes your house, your bed, or even your spouse smelling like dog piss I suggest you go to wherever you bought the book at and leave a stellar review about me that’s right me Rover! Remember I have remarkable abilities.

His latest book is the inspirational novel, Mr. Breeze.

Mr. BreezeMR. BREEZE (the title is inspired by a song by the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd) follows the increasingly amazing experiences of freelance photojournalist Michael Ryan as he hears of stories about a man named Zack, who can seemingly perform inhuman feats that could be called miraculous. Ryan eventually meets Zack and becomes, at Zack’s insistence, Zack’s messenger. Along the way, a dog named Rover, who also possesses otherworldly powers, joins Zack and Ryan in their adventures, which include a remarkable visit to the Centers for Disease Control, in Atlanta, in search of a cure for AIDS.

The secret of who Zack is and why he has chosen Ryan to tell his story to the world forms the surprising and moving climax to the book.

And there is a MR. BREEZE sequel in the works, Richfield notes. The working title is REVELATION:  THE RETURN OF MR. BREEZE. “The second book is about how we take that message (from the first book) and what we do with it.”

In the meantime, Richfield hopes that readers of MR. BREEZE find the storytelling compelling. I also would like them to be entertained and to want to tell others about it. If they come away wanting to be a better human being, that would be a huge plus.”

postheadericon Interview with Lisa Tillinger Johansen, author of FAST FOOD VINDICATION

Lisa Tillinger JohansenLisa Tillinger Johansen is a registered dietitian and health educator who teaches a variety of classes on diabetes, pre-diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, weight management, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, and healthy eating for adults and teens. She holds a Master of Science degree in nutritional science, Coordinated Dietetics Program, from California State University, Los Angeles.

Her latest book is Fast Food Vindication.

Q: Thank you so much for this interview, Lisa!  Can you tell us where you are from?

I’m from Southern California.

Fast Food VindicationQ: How did you come up with your title?

The book is about how fast food is not the enemy many portray it to be. I thought that FAST FOOD VINDICATION was fitting and sort of a play on the book FAST FOOD NATION.

Q: They say you can judge a book by its cover.  Can you tell us a little about your cover and who designed it?

I absolutely adore my cover! It was designed by the very talented Dana Morshead of Fishbrain, a Los Angeles-based graphic design studio. It really tells the story of what my book does; uncover the truths about the fast food industry and how we can incorporate its food into a healthy lifestyle.

Q: Can you tell us something about your book that would make me run out and buy it?

Well, we all eat, so right there that’s enough to buy it. Taking that further, the majority of us eat at one time or another at fast food restaurants and we certainly are aware of them. In addition, two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese and growing. My book covers these topics and more.

Q: Are there any messages in this book that you want the reader to know about?

The message is that we can make healthy eating choices wherever we eat, from fast food to fine dining, to our homes, to vending machines, entertainment venues and more. We can also make less healthy choices. It’s within our power to make the better choices.

Q: What was your most favorite chapter to write and why?

I really like the first chapter because it sets everything up for the rest of the book. It’s entertaining and informative.

Q: Why did you feel you had to write this book?

I see thousands of patients every year and so many of them are looking for healthy eating tips. I want to help them and others with that. Also, the laser focus on fast food being the cause of the obesity epidemic isn’t really the true picture. In order to take control of our health, we need the complete picture.

Q:  Now, some fun questions – What deep dark secret would you like to share with us?

I love to sing. It makes me happy. I’m an avid Karaoke singer and have a whole system in home, including surround sound and recording capability!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

My husband and I both love to travel and we’ve been lucky enough to have seen much of the world, although there’s so much more to see. We just got back from India and soon are off to China, where we’ve already been, but are visiting cities there new to us. I find people, other cultures and customs fascinating and, of course, I love to try different foods.

Q: Are you a morning person or a night person?

I’m mostly a morning person. That comes with the territory when you have two dogs!

Q: Are there any members in your family who also like to write?

My husband, Roy Johansen, is a novelist and screenwriter. He has won an Edgar Award and is a New York Times bestselling author.  My mother-in-law is Iris Johansen, also a New York Times bestselling author. I aspire to be them!

Q: As a child, were you a dreamer?

Once and always.

Q: Last but not least, the magic genie has granted you one wish.  What would that be?

If my book can impact even just one person to take the “whole picture” approach and learn to eat healthy for life, I’ll be happy.

Q: Thank you so much for this interview! Do you have any final words?

I appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. I’ve enjoyed it!

postheadericon Interview with Elyse Douglas: ‘It was an emotional compulsion to get Rita’s story out’

Elyse DouglasElyse Douglas is the pen name for the married writing team Elyse Parmentier and Douglas Pennington. Elyse grew up near the sea, roaming the beaches, reading and writing stories and poetry, receiving a Master’s Degree in English Literature from Columbia University. She has enjoyed careers as an English teacher, an actress and a speech-language pathologist. She and her husband, Douglas Pennington, have completed three novels: The Astrologer’s Daughter, Wanting Rita and a Christmas novel to be released later this year.

Douglas grew up in a family where music and astrology were second and third languages. He attended the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and played the piano professionally for many years. With his wife, Elyse, he has helped to pen The Astrologer’s Daughter and Wanting Rita.

When asked how they write a novel together, Doug often answers, “Well… If Elyse is dismissive and quietly pacing, then I know something’s not working. If I’m defensive, dramatic and defiant, then I know Elyse will soon be scowling and quietly pacing. We remind ourselves of Rita and Alan James in our novel, Wanting Rita. How the books get finished, I don’t know.”

Q: Thank you so much for this interview, Elyse and Douglas.  Can you tell us where you are from?

First of all, we want to clarify that Elyse Douglas is our pen name.  We are a married writing team who live and work in New York City.  Elyse is originally from Massachusetts and Douglas is from Ohio.  We met at a writer’s workshop about 20 years ago.  We married soon after that, and have been collaborating ever since.

Wanting Rita 2Q: How did you come up with your title?

Rita is the main character of the book and Alan James, who falls in love with her in high school, knows she is his soul mate.  Despite several separations, he never stops loving her.

Q: They say you can judge a book by its cover.  Can you tell us a little about your cover and who designed it?

The cover is from an oil painting by Elyse’s mother, Monique Parmentier.  It hangs in our living room.  One day as we were looking at it, we realized that it depicts a scene that takes place in the last part of Section One.  Alan James is watching Rita walk through the woods, painfully aware that he has lost her and she’s going to marry someone else.

Q: Can you tell us something about your book that would make me run out and buy it?

It’s a beautiful love story.  The characters leap off the page; they delight and charm you.  It also allows you to relive the obsession, passion and awkwardness of high school and first love — and then takes you on a tender, romantic journey as the characters struggle as adults fifteen years later to create a new life, despite tragedy and separation.

Q: Are there any messages in this book that you want the reader to know about?

The beauty of the human spirit as it struggles to understand life and love.

Q: What was your most favorite chapter to write and why?

No single chapter comes to mind, but we are particularly pleased with the first section, entitled Now and Then.  It uses flashbacks while staying firmly anchored in the present.  It was a challenge to the keep the story moving, while delivering the emotion and information needed to provide a good foundation to the book.

Q: Why did you feel you had to write this book?

It was an emotional compulsion to get Rita’s story out.  She’s a delightful combination of sweetness, volatility, wonder and intelligence.  She was loosely based on two girls that Douglas had dated: one in high school and one in college.

Q:  Now, some fun questions – What deep dark secret would you like to share with us?

Douglas: When I was a kid, I used to break into houses.  I never took anything.  I was more interested in exploring hidden secrets, and seeing what things people had; what clothes they wore; what they had in the frig.  Thank God I was never caught.

Elyse: I have nothing to compare with that.  When I was about 12, a friend convinced me to throw rocks at cars, and the first car I hit was a police car.  The cops came after me, took down my name and phone number, and told me they’d contact my parents (which they never did).  After that, I was convinced that I had no luck whatsoever in getting away with anything illegal.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Elyse:  I want to visit Alaska to experience the stillness and majesty of the glaciers.

Douglas: I would return to the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Eustatius.

Q: Are you a morning person or a night person?

Doug and I are definitely night people. We love the stillness of midnight, the play of night-time shadows, the glow of moonlight on icy snow, the cool night air in summer, the creaking of bare tree limbs in winter.

Q: Are there any members in your family who also like to write?

Douglas: My  father wrote a couple of novels when I was a kid. They took place in Kentucky.  They were never published.

Q: As a child, were you a dreamer?

Oh yes.  Elyse dreamed about being a missionary or a writer, and Douglas had dreams of playing shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds.

Q: Last but not least, the magic genie has granted you one wish.  What would that be?

To see Wanting Rita read and enjoyed by many people, and to have the book made into a successful feature film.

Q: Thank you so much for this interview! Do you have any final words?

We are editing two Christmas books which we will release in the fall.  Both protagonists are strong women who run their own businesses and think they know what they want — but they both need a little Christmas magic to help them uncover the secrets of their own hearts.

Thank you for giving us the time to chat with you.  Cheers!

0367Elyse Douglas, authors of Wanting Rita, are my guests today! Welcome Elyse & Douglas!

Ten Things About WANTING RITA You May Not Know

By Elyse Douglas

    1.  Elyse Douglas is actually a husband-and-wife writing team, Elyse Parmentier and Douglas Pennington.  We met about 20 years ago at a writers’ workshop in NYC, married soon after, and have been collaborating ever since.

    2. The character of Rita in WANTING RITA was originally based on two women:  Doug’s high school sweetheart and his first love in college.

    3. Douglas’s great, great grandfather lived in Kentucky to be 134 years old and was known to be a great storyteller.  He died in 1922.  His Kentucky Flintlock Rifle sold for more than $40,000 at a recent auction.

Wanting Rita 24. The book cover for WANTING RITA was painted by Elyse’s mother, Monique Parmentier.

    5.  The idea and most of the story for WANTING RITA came during a night of insomnia.  We worked on the first draft 6 days a week, 6 hours a day for 7 months.

    6. We originally envisioned Charlize Theron as Rita.

    7.  We changed the book’s ending when a NYC literary agent, who was editing and representing it, said he would “throw the book out the window” if we didn’t change it.  We did.

    8.  Elyse enjoys working with prose and Douglas loves writing dialogue.

    9.  Between them, Elyse and Douglas have written 12 novels.  Most will never see the light of day.  But all the novels were great teachers.

    10. Elyse likes reading male authors such as Jonathan Franzen, Robert James Waller and Charles Dickens.  Douglas likes to read Jane Smiley, Anita Shreve and Jane Austen.

About Crashers: A Tale of Cappers and Hammers

Fraudulent car accidents is a multi-million dollar racket, involving unscrupulous medical providers, personal injury attorneys, and the cooperating passengers involved in the accidents—and who also receive a portion of the illegal proceeds. Such is the fate of newly engaged, Nathan and Shari, whose joy is tempered by the dark cloud of mounting debt.

A chance encounter with a stranger in whom Shari confides her troubles proves fortuitous: he tells her of a get-rich-quick scheme that will put her and her fiancé on easy street. Seduced by the chance to move from hard times to good times in no time, Shari takes the carrot offered her, and finds herself acting as a “stuffed passenger”—the “victim” in a staged auto accident. The act goes according to plan and Shari gets her payday, but getting out and breaking free of the insurance fraud underworld will take nothing short of a miracle.

A modern day cautionary tale, Crashers is a true-to-life novel that uncovers how the innocent get lured into the scheme of “cappers” and “hammers.”

A riveting story of love and desperation, greed and redemption.

After raising a family of five as a single mother, she finally found time to concentrate on her writing. In 2000 she started her own publishing house with a partner but became too busy with eXtasy and Devine to continue her involvement and withdrew to focus entirely on eXtasy and Devine.

Tina devotes all her time to her publishing house and authors and is grateful for the success her company is experiencing. “After many years of struggling to keep my head above water while raising five children on my own, I have much to be thankful for,” said Tina. “While the company affords me a comfortable living now and I have quite a staff aboard, I thoroughly enjoy what I do and won’t stop until someone up above tells me it’s time.”

      About eXtasy Books

eXtasy Books first opened its doors December 2002 with a small website that was soon revamped into a more business like site. Within a matter of months, eXtasy outgrew that website and had to build another site to accommodate its growing catalog. Since then, the site has been revamped a number of times. Our imprint, Devine Destinies, started in 2008 to accommodate mainstream, YA, inspirational and children’s books.
Since eXtasy’s birth, it has seen several upheavals, but with hard work, a loyal staff and a loyal stable of authors, eXtasy managed to survive them, along with the depression that hit our countries hard.
This past years has seen tremendous growth at eXtasy and we have moved our website to our own dedicated server to accommodate its growing readership.
We publish a wide variety of stories ranging from short stories to full books, pricing kept reasonable to accommodate our readers. Prices range from 1.59 to 5.99.
eXtasy Books has always been and is a devout supporter of e-books and e-readers. There are so many print books destroyed every year, it’s unbelievable. Go Green, is our motto. Save our forests! With so many new e-readers on the market, think about the ease of taking books along when traveling, getting rid of dust collecting books in your house, thereby making more room, being able to read a book on your phone or handheld while going to and from work on a bus or train. Think about the many books you can store on your computer. And think about the books you can hide from nosy relatives or children…
We have an attractive reward program in place. Receive 5 dollars on first sign up for an account that can be applied if you spend 20 or more dollars. For every purchase you receive 10% of your total in rewards. These rewards can be saved or you can use them when you come back to buy more books. We’re always looking for new ways to make our site a great shopping experience. Come and visit us at http://www.extasybooks.com and/or http://www.devinedestinies.com
